Essays should be two to four pages, typewritten, double-spaced - discussing which of the project work areas below you would be most interested in working on, and how you think your experience and background will enable you to make a valuable contribution. In your response, please address how your sense of social justice shapes your perspective and your understanding of the issue. Please also articulate how this fellowship will contribute to your life aspirations and the diversity that you will bring to the program. Please also include a description of your familiarity and proficiency with social networking programs, if any.

The Lisa Kernan Social Justice Fellows will work directly on projects of the Center for Policy Analysis which may include the:

  • Trust Women/Silver Ribbon Campaign - The Trust Women/Silver Ribbon Campaign connects more than 80 groups who fight every day for reproductive rights and the public's interest. Our Campaign is creating a national communications and advocacy network that unifies reproductive health groups, and engages women and the men who trust them to make the right decisions for their health (url: oursilverribbon.org);
  • Global Health and Tobacco Control Project - Creating awareness of the connection
    between trade and tobacco control to advance effective strategies to safeguard public health and tobacco control measures from trade rules in California, nationally, and internationally (url: www.cpath.org);
  • EQUAL Health Care - A project bringing a progressive perspective to the
    implementation of national health care reform, including advocacy for reproductive health care and inclusion of immigrants (url: www.equalhealth.info).
